A major landscaping project across 650 square metres: existing hard and soft landscaping replaced with new hard landscaping and drainage, a bespoke dry stone bridge and pergola, feature brick walls with coping stones, and the refurbishment of the existing retaining walls.
The works.
The brief covered the full garden of a large residential property in St Albans: 650 square metres of existing hard and soft landscaping taken out and rebuilt as one coordinated programme, so that groundworks, drainage, masonry, stonework and planting were sequenced by a single team.
New limestone paving with herringbone clay paver inlays forms the terraces and pathways, laid over new drainage designed before a single slab was chosen. A bespoke dry stone bridge carries the transition between garden levels, and an aluminium pergola with an outdoor kitchen anchors the entertaining area. Feature brick walls in herringbone bond, finished with coping stones and integrated lighting, structure the garden into rooms, while the existing retaining walls were refurbished rather than replaced.
The result is a garden built for a property of this scale: hard landscaping that will hold its lines for decades, on groundwork and drainage the owner never has to think about.
